Arts Education

The Arts are essential to every child's education, which is why the arts are one of the core academic subjects.  Arts education (music, dance, drama and visual arts) benefits all students because it cultivates the whole child, gradually building many kinds of literacy while developing intuition, reasoning, imagination, and dexterity into unique forms of expression and communication.  This process requires not merely an active mind but a trained one.

An education in the arts benefits society because students of the arts gain powerful tools for understanding human experiences, both past and present.  Students learn to respect different ways of thinking, working and expressing themselves.  Studying the arts stimulates students' natural creativity and the joy of learning becomes real, tangible and powerful.  The Arts challenges all students to perform, create their own works and respond to works of art and the ideas they impart.  Research studies point to strong relationships between learning in the arts, fundamental cognitive skills and the capacities used to master other core subjects for literacy and numeracy.

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board celebrates the God-given gifts and talents of students in the Arts by hosting a variety of opportunities such as the Performing Arts Festival, DanceFest, School Musicals, Banding Together instrumental performances, as well as live & virtual art galleries.
